Black Friday is the worst day of the year for theft, new statistics show.
There is a 28 percent increase in “off-premise’’ thefts — or those that occur away from home — than any other day, a Travelers Insurance analysis found.
Thieves typically target newly bought gifts in cars, the company said.
“On Black Friday, thieves are just much more focused on the opportunity than on a regular basis,” Travelers Senior Vice President Patrick Gee told Fortune magazine.
About 40 percent of Black Friday thefts are of clothing and apparel.
