British protesters flooded the streets to dispute Boris Johnson’s plan to suspend Parliament, shutting down main roads while chanting “Boris Johnson, shame on you!”
Aerial footage of London’s Whitehall shows thousands of protesters crowding the roads outside Downing Street Saturday.
Demonstrators held signs that read “Bring down Boris” and “Defend Democracy” while marching through the Westminster streets.
Johnson sparked ire from opponents of a no-deal Brexit — a scenario in which the United Kingdom would immediately leave the European Union — when he announced Wednesday that he would suspend Parliament for several weeks.
The move would stonewall the legislative body from blocking a hasty Brexit.
Protests are planned for at least 80 cities across the UK Saturday, with hundreds of thousands of demonstrators expected.
Demonstrations were also underway Saturday morning in Leeds, York and Belfast, according to the BBC.
