Thousands of people protesting abuses by the Catholic Church gathered in Dublin on Sunday a few miles where Pope Francis was scheduled to celebrate Mass.

The rally, dubbed for the Irish social media handle “Stand4Truth,” started at 3 pm., the same time as the pontiff’s Mass in Ireland.

Protesters held up banners reading ““Secular Justice For All, Truth Justice Love and Church Without Abuse” and “The Church Protects Pedarasts” and chanted before a mobile stage filling Parnell Square East.

“Our gathering is for everyone who wishes to stand in solidarity with those harmed by the actions of the institutional Roman Catholic Church,” organizer Colm O’Gorman tweeted last week.
