At least three people remained missing nearly two days after a pair of tornadoes ripped through Tennessee, killing at least 24 people.

The three were reported missing in Putnam County, some 80 miles east of Nashville.

“We have made some great progress today,” County Mayor Randy Porter said late Wednesday, calling the debris search a “time-consuming process.”

The search is 90 percent complete, the county Sheriff said.

As many as 21 people had been missing in the wake of the tornadoes, the strongest of which hit Putnam County, claiming 18 lives, including five pre-teen children.

The second tornado struck Nashville and surrounding counties.
