Coronavirus relief money is finally hitting every-day Americans’ bank accounts — but now lawmakers are at loggerheads over where the next cash infusion will go.
The IRS said over the weekend that it has started sending coronavirus stimulus payments to people who have direct deposit.
But on Monday, Democrats and Republicans were at a standstill over the next stimulus bill, with Dems seeking more money for hospitals, frontline workers and small businesses, while GOPers stick by a proposed $250 billion small business loan package.

Here’s what else we learned today:
New York crisis:
- New York and five other northeastern states teamed up to plan post-pandemic reopening of the economy.
- This came as the Empire State’s death toll topped 10,000 and Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared that the “worst is over” if the state keeps to social distancing and other preventive practices.
- The situation is so dire at one Big Apple nursing home that it is leaving dead residents in their beds.
In New Jersey:
- A 108-year-old woman died from COVID-19 at a nursing home — without her family being told she was even infected.
- The virus has devastated the Garden State’s four psychiatric hospitals — with 240 cases and five fatalities.
No layoffs here
- The White House said President Trump won’t fire coronavirus task force member Dr. Anthony Fauci, despite sharing a tweet with the hashtag #FireFauci a day earlier.
- The back-and-forth came after Fauci on Sunday conceded that more lives could have been spared if lockdowns had started earlier, but that “there was a lot of pushback about shutting things down back then.”

- A man was arrested for allegedly trying to sell the federal government 125 million face masks that didn’t exist.
Meanwhile…
- “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos tested positive for the virus over the weekend.
- A Seattle mother who was the first healthy person to receive an experimental coronavirus vaccine described getting the risky shot.
- And ordering in is on the outs. Grubhub and Seamless food deliveries have dropped in the Big Apple, even though New Yorkers are staying home.
