The death toll from the second tornado to hit the Oklahoma City area in 11 days rose to nine yesterday.

Among those killed were a woman and her baby who were sucked out of a car Friday as the storm hit the state capital and its suburbs.

“It was chaos,” said Terri Black, 51, a teacher. “People were going south in northbound lanes. Everybody was running for their lives.”

Floodwaters from torrential downpours that lasted for hours remained several feet deep, and officials said more than 91,800 homes and businesses across the state were without power.
