He’s only in the Squad when it suits him.

US Rep. Tom Suozzi once boasted about wanting to join Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her “Squad” in Congress, backing it up with his votes more than 90 percent of the time, records show.

Those votes might come back to haunt the New York gubernatorial candidate, as he tries to cut a moderate lane in his bid to unseat Gov. Hochul in the Democratic primary next year.

Suozzi (D-Long Island) told The Post he would welcome qualified Republicans to serve in a future Empire State administration, and noted he maintains a “cordial” relationship with his Long Island colleague Rep. Lee Zeldin — a prominent GOP contender in the race.

But his love affair with the Squad says otherwise.

“I don’t agree with all the politics of the Squad,” Suozzi said in July 2019 while defending the group from a Twitter tirade by then-President Trump. “But today I want to be an honorary member of the squad.”

“You’re in,” AOC gushed in a tweet.

During the last Congress, Suozzi’s voting record aligned with Ocasio-Cortez’s on 92 percent of issues according to an analysis from ProPublica. That number edged up to 93 percent for Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, and 94 percent for Rep. Ayanna Pressley, the other three Squad members.

Past Squad-friendly votes from Suozzi have included standing against a bill to allow US authorities to deny entry to immigrants suspected of gang activity. He also voted against another bill upping penalties for those who reenter the United States if they have been convicted of certain crimes.

“Congressman Suozzi has made it clear that he is a common sense Democrat who will work with anyone to get things done for New Yorkers. He refuses to be boxed in by labels,” Suozzi senior advisor Kim Devlin told The Post adding that her boss was vice-chair of the bipartisan House Problem Solvers Caucus and also co-founder and co-chair of the Labor Caucus

Critics, however, saw it differently.

“He’s like the Charlie in Charlie’s Angles but It’s like Suozzi’s Angels,” Andrew Giuliani — another GOP gubernatorial contender told The Post. “If he’s voting with the Squad 92-94 percent of time he is not just going on Morning Joe … this is actually voting for these destructive policies.”
