A neighbor of still-missing accused murderer Travis Decker said he barely recognised the homeless veteran when he saw him picking up his three daughters before allegedly killing them.

Binh Nguyen said he had a 10-minute chat with Decker, 32, on May 30, the day the three girls were last seen when their dad picked them up from their mother for a custody visit.

“He was skinny. He had long hair and a beard. I said, ‘Is that you, Travis?'” Nguyen told People of his neighbor, who is still missing, presumed dead.

“It was kind of weird. He had a sad face,” Nguyen said.

Decker was polite but distracted, asking his longtime neighbor how he was three times during their brief chat.

Before then, Nguyen thought of Travis Decker as a devoted “girl dad” to his three daughters, Evelyn, 8, Olivia, 5, and Paityn, 9, even after he moved out when his marriage to the girls’ mom, Whitney Decker, broke down in 2022.

Decker would still come by regularly with his dog to pick up the girls from the house in Wenatchee, Washington, and take them on camping trips in the nearby Cascade Mountains, Nguyen recalled.

“They loved him a lot, and he loved them too,” Nguyen said.

Decker had a court-approved three-hour visitation with his three daughters at 5 p.m. on May 30, when Nguyen last saw him.

But when the scheduled return time of 8 p.m. came and went with no signs of the girls, and with calls to Decker going straight to voicemail, their mom went to the police.

The girls’ bodies were found three days later close to their father’s abandoned pickup truck — with plastic bags over their heads and zip ties around their wrists.

The search for Decker — a highly-trained former soldier — is now into its fourth week.

Detectives admitted this week for the first time that Decker may not still be alive, as cadaver dogs moved in to try and find any trace of the murder accused.
