It’ll be hard to ketchup after this mess.
Drivers in California battled major traffic delays early Monday after a truck carrying a massive shipment of tomatoes overturned — covering the highway in a juicy, red sludge.
The big rig filled with the fruit had been driving eastbound on Interstate 80 near the city of Vacaville when it rammed into another vehicle and smashed into the center median around 5 a.m. — spilling nearly 300,000 tomatoes, USA Today reported.
Three cars were involved in the collision, though hundreds more were impacted by the blocked-off roadway and the slippery sauce covering the asphalt.
Some vehicles trying to drive through the mess lost control and skidded into each other, though no major injuries were reported, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the tomato truck and two other individuals were treated at a nearby hospital, according to CBS News.
Photos of the scene showed left three eastbound lanes and one westbound lane slathered with crushed tomatoes as the state Department of Transportation worked to clear and reopen the lanes, CHP said.
