The Trump administration shot down a request from ExxonMobil to waive US sanctions against Russia so it could resume drilling for oil around the Black Sea.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Friday that the administration “will not be issuing waivers to US companies, including Exxon, authorizing drilling prohibited by current Russian sanctions.”
Lawmakers slammed Exxon’s application, saying that Team Trump should not water down sanctions after US intelligence agencies concluded that Russia meddled in last year’s presidential election.
