It’s just a sitting passion.

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign brushed aside the Harris campaign’s attacks poking fun at an internet hoax about GOP nominee JD Vance making an adult comment about couches in his memoir.

“We’re not going to talk about couches or coconuts or whatever weird fetish KamalaHQ is into. When we have something to say, we’ll say it loud and clear,” Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement.

“If Kamala is a coward, we’ll call her a coward. If Tim Walz is a liar, we’ll call him a liar,” he added.

Over recent days, allies of Vice President Kamala Harris have seized upon a debunked claim circulating the internet that Vance shared an X-rated anecdote about a couch and a rubber glove in his memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.”

“I can’t wait to debate the guy,” Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz quipped at a Philadelphia rally Tuesday. “That is if he’s willing to get off the couch and show up.”

Other Democrats backing Harris proffered similar digs about the couch.

“I’ve been on Air Force 2 JD, there is a great couch on it,” Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) wrote on X in response to Vance needling Harris about winning Air Force 2 in November.

Harris’ allies have also worked to reclaim a viral moment of hers from a speech she delivered in May 2023 while swearing in commissioners for the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics.

“My mother used to — she would give us a hard time sometimes, and she would say to us, ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people. You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?’” Harris recalled before breaking into her signature cackle.

Since her sudden rise to the Democratic presidential nomination, legions of her netizen backers have posted memes and videos on TikTok portraying that in a favorable light.

Cheung’s ding on Harris was largely centered around the Trump campaign’s annoyance at her largely eschewing media interviews since becoming the nominee.

“It has been 17 days since Kamala Harris replaced her mentor Crooked Joe Biden and she has refused to engage with the press or participate in interviews,” Cheung jabbed.

“It sounds like the Harris-Walz campaign is scared of talking about their liberal records or policies, instead talking about non-sensical things like couches and coconuts,” he continued.

Vance, 40, crossed paths with Air Force 2 during his swing through Wisconsin and approached pool reporters covering Harris to trash talk her for answering so few on-the-record questions since President Biden dropped out.

Meanwhile, the Harris campaign has been goading Trump for being noncommittal about the previously agreed-upon ABC News debate in September.

Trump, 78, has publicly cast doubt about participating in that debate and pitched a Fox News debate instead. But his advisers have been adamant that he will debate her.

“We aren’t surprised Trump wouldn’t show his face, he’s ashamed of his dangerous Project 2025 agenda, is afraid to debate, and has no positive vision to present to the American people,” Harris-Walz 2024 spokesperson James Singer chided Wednesday morning.

Vance has suggested he’d be the one to debate Harris in the VP debate.

“So here’s my offer to Kamala Harris: If she’d like to do a debate with me on August 13, I’ll do it. I don’t think she wants to anymore, because one, she probably doesn’t even know that she’s going to be the Democratic nominee, and two, we don’t know who the vice presidential nominee is going to be either,” he said.

Harris-Walz campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa quickly hit back saying, “Ummm this is getting weird.”

Election Day is 90 days away.
