President Trump shared new details about the heroic actions of the US Army Apache helicopter pilots whose quick thinking helped them narrowly escape a fiery death at the hands of a deadly Iranian attack drone.

Speaking to Fox News Wednesday, the president said a drone laden with explosives had “lodged between” the pilots inside the helicopter as it was flying low over enemy territory — fully engulfed in flames, but failing to explode as intended.

“At any moment it could have exploded,” Trey Yingst told the network after speaking with Trump, who called the harrowing incident “a miracle.”

“And so we’re trying to take down the helicopter with the drone lodged into this gunship without it exploding. There was a lot of heat inside the cockpit of this helicopter, and ultimately these two pilots were able to take it down into the sea,” he said, quoting the president.

After the pilots brought down the $40 million craft, they were rescued by an unmanned sea drone — a first in US military history.

The AI-powered, 24-foot Saronic Corsair autonomous surface vessel found the Apache crew, who had been stranded in the waters off Oman for two hours, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The unmanned boats can carry up to 1,000 pounds and reach speeds of up to 40 mph.

Officials said that once the pilots were shepherded to safety, a rescue chopper hoisted them up.

Following Iran’s “unjustified” downing of the helicopter, the US military unleashed a series of “proportional” strikes against the regime, rattling the fragile, two-month-old cease-fire agreement to its core.

Trump said the retaliatory strikes were not meant to renew the hostilities that have raged in the region since late February, but said in a phone interview with an ABC reporter that it was “very important to respond.”

“This is a response to what they did with our helicopter last night, and I believe the response should be very strong, very powerful, and that’s what this one is,” he said.

US Central Command described the attacks on Tuesday as “self-defense strikes.”

“CENTCOM forces began launching self-defense strikes against Iran at 5 p.m. ET today at the Commander in Chief’s direction, in response to yesterday’s downing of a US Army Apache helicopter,” the combatant command said Tuesday.

”The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression,” it added, suggesting that the operation is limited and is not intended to spark a return to daily war with Tehran.

The wave of in-kind strikes against Iran will likely focus on targets along the Strait of Hormuz, particularly those where the rogue Islamic state has launched or housed drones and other weapons, sources familiar with military planning told The Post.

However, Iran told Al Jazeera that Tehran did not “deliberately” shoot down the helicopter.

The country’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, who has played a pivotal role in peace negotiations, suggested it might have been accidental.
