A Turkish construction worker was maimed by a steel bar — and miraculously survived despite it coming just inches from his brain.
Celal Sayar, 39, was impaled by the thick bracing rebar after falling on it at work in Giresun, local media said.
Astonishing photos showed him bandaged up and seemingly calm and conscious in a hospital — with the bar still sticking out of his right cheek.
X-ray images taken Saturday also show how the bar — which looks to be more than a foot long — pierced his cheekbone, penetrating up behind his eyes just inches from his brain, according to Central European News.
After initial treatment at a hospital in Giresun, Sayar was transferred to a specialist unit at Samsun Training and Research Hospital about 125 miles away, the local reports said.

The bar was removed, the local reports said, without giving an update on the builder’s condition beyond saying he was treated in intensive care.
Last year, a worker died every four hours in an occupational accident in Turkey, according to a report by the Workers’ Health and Work Safety Assembly. Of the 2,170 workers who died, 335 were in construction.
