Twitter on Friday suspended the accounts of several white nationalists groups, just days before their big rally in Washington D.C., according to a report.

The San Francisco-based social media platform said it took action against @ProudBoysUSA, its founder Gavin McInnes, and other related accounts for violating policies against “violent extremist groups.”

“We can confirm that these accounts have been suspended from Twitter and Periscope for violating our policy prohibiting violent extremist groups,” a company rep told BuzzFeed News.

Proud Boys activists were among leading voices of last year’s deadly “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

White nationalists are staging a follow-up rally on Sunday in the nation’s capital.

The move by Twitter came at the tail end of a week that saw it take considerable heat for failing to take any action against conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

Jones regularly spreads outlandish lies such as saying the Sandy Hook school shooting was fake.
