Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey will testify before the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Sept. 5 to answer lawmakers’ questions about how the social media giant manages it’s content and decides what to publish and what to suppress.

“Twitter is an incredibly powerful platform that can change the national conversation in the time it takes a tweet to go viral,” said Oregon GOP Rep. Greg Walden, the committee’s chair.

“When decisions about data and content are made using opaque processes, the American people are right to raise concerns. This committee intends to ask tough questions about how Twitter monitors and polices content, and we look forward to Mr. Dorsey being forthright and transparent regarding the complex processes behind the company’s algorhythms and content judgment calls,” he said.

The announcement came the same day that President Trump slammed social-media companies for “silencing millions of people” in what he called an act of censorship — even if “Fake News” gets disseminated as a result.

“Social Media Giants are silencing millions of people. Can’t do this even if it means we must continue to hear Fake News like CNN, whose ratings have suffered gravely,” Trump tweeted, without naming any companies or providing any evidence.

“People have to figure out what is real, and what is not, without censorship!” the president added.

Trump’s comment came a day after Facebook, without explanation, took down a piece supportive of the president by Post columnist Salena Zito — even though it contained no offensive content.

Facebook, Twitter and YouTube this week also removed hundreds of accounts tied to an alleged Iranian propaganda operation, while Facebook took down a second campaign that it said was linked to Moscow.

Trump’s attack comes amid heavy criticism from Republicans over how social-media sites have treated conservatives on their platforms.
