One person was killed and another wounded when an employee reportedly opened fire on two people inside a Delaware hospital on Tuesday — setting off a desperate manhunt that saw cops nab the guman fleeing across state lines.

Police discovered two victims with gunshot wounds inside Wilmington Hospital around 3:30 p.m, Wilmington Police Chief Wilfredo Campos said at a press conference on Tuesday evening.

One person was blasted in the neck, and the other took a bullet to the upper body, according to scanner audio obtained by NBC10.

Preliminary information indicated that one hospital employee fired shots at two other employees, law enforcement sources told WPVI.

One of the victims has since died, Campos told reporters. The condition of the other victim, who has not yet been identified, has not been released.

A 23-year-old suspect, who has not yet been identified, was taken into custody in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, according to Wilmington police. He will be extradited to Delaware to face charges.

The gunman managed to flee the hospital after the shooting. Campos had earlier vowed to review surveillance footage and “tirelessly” search for the suspect all night to bring him “to justice.”

Police said the shooting appears to be targeted and an isolated incident. Authorities have declined to comment on additional details of the shooting, including a motive or whether employees were involved.

Cops are now searching for the killer, who managed to flee the hospital. Investigators are reviewing surveillance video to pinpoint the gunman’s movements, Campos said.

Authorities will be “tirelessly” searching for the suspect all night to “bring this person to justice,” the chief added.

A lockdown was lifted at the hospital by 7:30 p.m., after staff were seen on video being led out of the medical center in Wilmington with their hands up, according to police officials.

The shooting appeared to have happened in the basement of the facility, according to a text message sent to hospital employees obtained by NBC10.

The night shift took over at the hospital on Tuesday evening despite the violence that had unfolded just hours before.

Regional healthcare system ChristianaCare said in a statement that the hospital’s emergency department is “on divert.”

“We are tremendously grateful for the professionalism and courage shown by our caregivers, who continued to put patients and the community first during a difficult situation,” ChristianaCare said in a statement Tuesday night.

ChristianaCare had also earlier asked patients’ friends and family not to come to Wilmington Hospital as the investigation unfolded.

An employee at Wilmington Hospital told NBC10 that he bolted out of the building as soon as he heard shots ring out.

“I heard two [shots], but I didn’t stick around for any more,” he said, describing the sound as “almost like firecrackers.”

“This is supposed to be a place where people can be safe. I don’t have the answers, I’m not a politician, but somebody needs to figure something out. There’s got to be something done.”

Wilmington Mayor John Carney thanked hospital staff who continued to care for patients following the mayhem.

“Any violence or loss of life in our city is unacceptable,” Carney said at the press conference.

“It’s particularly distressing when an incident like this occurs in a hospital whose fundamental purpose is to treat injuries and save lives.”

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
