A 2-year-old boy was clinging to life and his twin brother was dead after they were pulled out of a swimming pool at their great-grandmother’s Texas home earlier this month, their mother said.
The grieving mom, Demi Schroeder, said the tragedy unfolded after she woke up at the Cedar Creek home on Feb. 16 and couldn’t find her twin boys, Levi and Noah. The family had been visiting Schroeder’s grandmother just two weeks after Schroeder’s grandfather died.
“I wake up Saturday morning. Early in the morning and they’re not in the room,” she told KEYE.
Schroeder and her grandmother both searched all over the home for the boys.
“All of a sudden, I hear my Nanny say they’re in the pool back here and I run from the front yard to the back yard and my grandma is pulling my kids out of the pool,” Schroeder added. Schroeder called 911 and within minutes, Bastrop County sheriff’s deputies were on the scene performing CPR.
The boys were rushed to a local hospital, where Noah died two days later. Levi was recovering and can breathe on his own again, doctors said.
“Right now we’re just fighting for Levi and that’s all we’re worried about is him,” Schroeder said.
A GoFundMe page was set up to cover both funeral and medical expenses for the family, who is not insured. As of this Monday, the family had raised well over their $10,000 goal.
Schroeder decided to donate Noah’s organs, which she was told had already helped five people.
