Police in the UK were left “in absolute shock” when they discovered a rowdy group of 25 adults and children holding a “massive” karaoke party in violation of lockdown orders during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report.
“It is clear people are still having complete disregard for the Government advice and rules,” police said on Twitter after they broke up the bug-defying bacchanalia in Derby.
The revelers were dispersed and the hosts “dealt with,” police said, sharing images of a huge buffet featuring sandwiches, cold cuts, salads, oranges and beer – as well as a pair of music speakers.
Non-essential businesses remain closed in the UK, which has been under lockdown for the past week, and people may only venture out to buy groceries, for medical appointments and for exercise, according to the BBC.
The Derbyshire police were assailed last week after they released drone footage of people in pairs walking about.
Former justice secretary David Gauke had described the video’s release as “badly misjudged” and pointed out the people seen in the footage were maintaining a social distance.
The government later clarified its advice about exercise, saying people should “stay local” and not travel unnecessarily for physical activity.
Police Superintendent Steve Pont told the BBC’s “Today” program: “We wanted to reinforce the message of stay home and a number of people aren’t staying home, they’re finding excuses or loopholes — and we just wanted to illustrate that this is the wrong thing to do.”
