A British soldier in the unit that protects the royal family has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting two recruits in an initiation ritual, according to a report.

The newcomers were abused with sex toys on their second day with the Coldstream Guards, the unit famed for its red tunics and tall bearskin hats and for performing ceremonial “Changing of the Guard” duties for the UK’s monarchy, according to the Sun.

Army officials confirmed that a guardsman had been arrested and suspended pending an ongoing investigation, the Sun said.

The attack happened “just yards” from Windsor Castle, the UK paper said of the official residence of Queen Elizabeth II.

“The Army is under huge pressure to stamp this sort of behavior out,” a source told the UK paper of alleged twisted initiation acts.

The Coldstream Guards was formed in 1650 and is the oldest continuously serving regiment in the British Army. It is based at Victoria Barracks close to the Queen’s castle in Berkshire.

While an active infantry unit that prides itself on having “a hard-won reputation as an elite fighting force,” it is best known for its role in ceremonial events, with some acting as the Queen’s personal bodyguards.

The unit is best known for its famous “Changing of the Guard” ceremony, which returned Monday to Buckingham Palace after an 18-month absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A similar ceremony at Windsor Castle restarted last month.
