The man who allegedly killed two people and wounded four others when he opened fire in a classroom at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte has been charged with two counts of murder.

Tyson Andrew Terrell, 22, of Charlotte, was arrested on campus Tuesday following the shooting. He has also been charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, one count of having a gun on education property and one count of discharging a firearm on education property, according to records obtained by the Herald-Sun.

He’s set to appear in Mecklenberg County Court on Thursday afternoon, the records show.

Terrell allegedly targeted a classroom around 5 p.m. on the last day of classes, killing the two people and wounding four others — including three who were critically injured, authorities said.

Local media outlets reported he was a former student at the college who dropped out this year before completing his degree in history.

His grandfather said he was shocked his grandson could be responsible for the slayings.

“This is not in his DNA,” Paul Rold of Arlington, Texas, said.
