A University of Maryland Medical Center employee was shot outside the hospital on Monday morning in an “isolated event,” authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 7:15 a.m. near the hospital’s ambulance bay. A suspect was taken into custody.

At a press conference, authorities said the victim is a 24-year-old hospital employee.

He was shot in the face and buttocks, the Baltimore Sun reported.

The victim, who is on life support, and the alleged gunman, 26, knew each other, but it’s not clear how.

The hospital was briefly placed on lockdown but it was lifted after the suspect was caught a few blocks away. A loaded gun was found at the scene.

“The hospital is functioning as normal,” the hospital tweeted.

University of Maryland, Baltimore students received an email saying there was no threat to the campus community.

Some streets surrounding the hospital were closed to traffic but reopened a short time later.

Authorities didn’t disclose what the victim did at the hospital.
