An American diplomat’s wife who killed a British teen motorcyclist while driving on the wrong side of the road in England will face charges early next year in court, prosecutors said Monday.
Anne Sacoolas, 44, is set to go to trial in the death of 19-year-old Harry Dunn on Jan. 18 in London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
“While the challenges and complexity of this case are well known, we remain committed to securing justice in this matter,” the prosecution service said.
Sacoolas will appear by video link from the United States, according to Britain’s Press Association news agency.
She has acknowledged that she was driving on the wrong side of the road as she left a US airbase in central England in August 2019 when she plowed into Dunn’s motorbike, killing him.
Sacoolas was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, but the US State Department rejected a request to extradite her to Britain to face trial because of diplomatic immunity, prompting an outcry in the country.
