The US military on Tuesday reportedly tallied 1,314 new coronavirus cases — a record daily amount, as COVID-19 numbers among the country’s civilian population have been concurrently surging.

The jump in military cases, reported by CNN, comes as the positivity rate in the armed forces is at 6.8 percent, a US defense official told the outlet.

Since the onset of the pandemic, over 69,000 US military members have contracted coronavirus and 10 have died with the illness, according to data compiled by the Department of Defense.

Of all military branches, the Army accounts for the most cases with over 25,000.

Meanwhile, nationwide, the US on Wednesday reached 250,000 COVID-19 deaths, data shows, as cases in the country have been on the uptick.
