The US is planning a “handful more flights” to evacuate Americans from the hot zone of the coronavirus in China, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Monday.

Pompeo said officials are still coordinating with the Chinese government on the dates of the charter flights, which he’s hopeful will take off in the next few days from Hubei province, the epicenter of the deadly virus.

“We have a handful more flights that will be heading to China to bring Americans back home from Hubei province,” Pompeo said during a briefing in Uzbekistan. “The exact timing of those we’re still coordinating with the Chinese government.”

He said the government is working “hand in hand” with Chinese officials to stop the spread of the virus, which has now killed more than 360 people.

“We might be bringing citizens home from other countries as well,” Pompeo said. “In addition we might bring in some medical supplies.”

It’s estimated that hundreds of Americans are still trapped in the Chinese city of Wuhan, which has been on lockdown to contain the virus.

Federal officials chartered a flight Wednesday that evacuated around 200 Americans to California.

The plane, which seated 230 people, transported US diplomats and their families as well as a handful of private citizens from the city’s closed airport, the Wall Street Journal reported.
