Navy crews on Thursday were reportedly searching for a sailor from the USS Theodore Roosevelt who may have gone overboard off the coast of Southern California.

“The ship initiated search and rescue procedures after a lookout spotted what appeared to be a person in the water,” the U.S. 3rd Fleet said a statement, according to USNI News.

“One sailor was unaccounted for during a command-wide muster,” the statement said.

The carrier is using three helicopters and a rigid hull inflate boat in the search.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt left San Diego on Monday ahead of its second deployment of the year, USNI News reported.

The carrier has been in the news since the onset of the pandemic after a massive coronavirus outbreak infected over 1,200 sailors.
