The College of Cardinals yesterday ended its final talks before going into lockdown today in the Sistine Chapel, debating whether the Vatican needs a damage-control manager.

They heard from the Vatican’s No. 2, Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone, who outlined the troubles of the scandal-scarred Vatican bank and efforts to clean up the church’s financial problems, a spokesman said.
