The Las Vegas mass killer reportedly tried to create a gigantic explosion during Sunday’s carnage by shooting at two large jet fuel tanks located near the Vegas Strip.

Stephen Paddock left the two round aviation fuel containers with bullet holes during the mass shooting that killed 59 and injured hundreds — but luckily he could not penetrate the tanks, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The tanks are at an airport about 1,100 feet from the site of the Route 91 Harvest country music festival, where chaos unfolded when Paddock opened fire from his Mandalay Bay hotel room.

Paddock broke two windows in his room to launch the attack. One window was in the sight line of the concert, while the other was in direct view of the tanks, the Journal said.
