A veterinarian became a leopard’s best friend this week when he descended down a 30-foot well to rescue the trapped animal, reports say.

The female leopard had been stuck in the dry well in the north eastern state of Assam for hours Wednesday, The Telegraph reported.

The leopard was first shot with a tranquilizer dart, and then vet Dr. Bijoy Gogoi descended down the dark hole, securing a rope harness around the beast.

The big cat was then hoisted out with the help of bystanders – assisted by Gogoi — during the two-hour rescue operation.
Following the ordeal, the animal appeared to be uninjured and was taken to the Assam State Zoo.

It’s believed the leopard had fallen into the well while looking for food.

“Luckily there was no water [in the well] and it was about 30 feet deep inside so we have successfully rescued,” Gogoi told reporters after the incident, Inside Edition reported.
