What happened to “Midwestern Nice”?
A Democratic caucus organizer in Iowa tried to call in results to his state party Monday night — only to get hung up on.
Shawn Sebastian was live on the phone with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer when he finally got off hold with the Iowa Democratic Party, after waiting for over an hour.
“I just got off hold now,” Sebastian, the Story County Precinct 1-1 secretary, told the CNN anchor, who asked, “Can we listen in as you report them?”
A woman from the Iowa party could be heard on the other end saying, “Hello? Hello?”
“Hi, hello,” Sebastian responded — only to realize she’d gotten off the line.
“They hung up on me,” he said. “OK. I’ve got to get back on line.”
Several caucus organizers were reduced to having to call in their results to state party headquarters, after an app created to report the tallies experienced issues, officials said.
The Iowa Democratic Party said the results from the crucial caucuses were delayed due to “quality checks” and new rules requiring that three sets of data be reported.
