Wild video shows flames spouting from the engine of a Philippines Airlines flight less than half an hour before it was forced to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport Thursday.

A passenger’s dramatic cellphone footage, aired by KABC-TV in Los Angeles, shows smoke and fire shooting out of the right engine of Manila-bound Flight 113 shortly after the Boeing 777 took off from LAX at 11:38 a.m., according to the airline tracking-site flightaware.com.

“I could see like flashes of light. I thought it was just from the sunlight,” passenger Walter Baumann told the news station. “And then I started hearing like, ‘boom, boom, boom.’ And then I look out of the window and there’s balls of fire just shooting out of the engine.”

More footage of the mishap was captured from the ground.

The dual-engine plane was able to return to the ground with only one working engine “without incident” — other than blowing some tires, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor told the station.

No injuries were reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
