Dramatic video shows Connecticut firefighters braving frigid waters to save a pair of passengers from icy Long Island Sound during this week’s nor’easter.

First-responders got the call around 2:10 p.m. Monday for a pickup truck that was sinking in the icy waters 40 feet from the shore in Stamford’s Cummings Park, officials said.

Donning scuba suits, three firefighters swam to the truck and were able to pull the woman from the pickup using the department’s ladder truck, according to officials.

But first-responders said they struggled to free the man through a small rear window.

“[H]is size made it very challenging,” Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Palmer said in a statement.

As the pickup submerged completely, one of firefighters managed to “hold on the man’s arm and was able to pull him through the small window after the truck was completely underwater.”

The man was treated at Stamford Hospital while the woman refused medical attention.

It was unclear how the truck ended up in the water.
