Footage released on Wednesday shows the moment a self-driving Uber killed a person crossing the street in Tempe, Arizona.

The self-driving vehicle appears to proceed at a normal pace while a woman walking with a bicycle suddenly appears on the dark road, according to the March 18 video released by Tempe Police.

The video stops just before the moment of impact.

Another angle also shows the person inside the vehicle, 44-year-old Rafael Vasquez, unaware of the pedestrian’s presence until it was too late.

The victim, 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg, was fatally wounded in the crash.

The car was in self-driving mode at the time of impact.

Tempe Police Chief Sylvia Moir has said the accident may have been “unavoidable” and it appeared that Uber may not be at fault.
