Disturbing video shows the moment a British woman coughed in the face of a cop who was arresting her — before she was sent to the slammer for five months.

Charlene Merrifield, 39, was shown protesting as an officer in South Tyneside calmly led her to the back of a police van after she was busted for damaging cars and attacking a man with a knife.

After complaining about banging her head, Merrifield then started a long, exaggerated cough — leaning forward toward the arresting officer right in front of her.

“I swear to God, you’re going to jail!” the officer warned her — correctly predicting the outcome of her court case last Wednesday, Northumbria police said.

Merrifield was jailed for 21 weeks after admitting assault of an emergency worker along with other offenses. There was no mention of whether she was tested for the coronavirus.

“Charlene Merrifield knew exactly what she was doing as she decided to intentionally cough at one of our officers, which is absolutely appalling,” Northumbria police Chief Inspector Nicola Wearing said.

The jailed woman showed “a total disregard for both the law and the welfare of others” at a time when officers face increased dangers while protecting others, the top cop said.

“I hope this case highlights how seriously offenses of this nature are being taken in the light of the current pandemic,” Wearing stressed.
