A vintage war plane bearing German markings reportedly crashed on a California freeway and burst into flames Tuesday evening.
A small WWII-era propeller plane — which belongs to a nearby aviation club — crash landed near the center lanes of the 101 Freeway near Liberty Canyon Road in Southern California, according to KNBC-TV.
The plane took off from nearby Van Nuys airport — the base for the Condor Squadron officers and airmen’s association, founded by a group of WWII fighter pilots.
Video footage from the scene showed the pilot walking away from the fiery wreckage.
The LA County Fire Department said he was not injured.
