A Chicago man who avoided jail time after a string of violent robberies escaped from his ankle monitor and was arrested weeks later for molesting an 11-year-old girl, according to reports.
Davaughn Credit, 21, was sent home on pretrial release by notoriously lenient Chicago Judge David Kelly last year, only to go AWOL last month before he was found at a home in Indiana, where he allegedly molested a young girl he met on Snapchat, according to CWB Chicago.
The 11-year-old girl’s mother reported to police that her daughter had left their Chicago home without permission on Nov. 21, with her location showing her some 80 miles away in Rensselaer, Indiana, leading the family to believe she “may be with Davaughn Credit,” according to an affidavit obtained by Region News Source.
Davaughn Credit escaped from his ankle monitor after avoiding jail time for a string of violent robberies and was arrested weeks later for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl.
Chicago Police DepartmentThe following night, an adult sibling found the child, who appeared “high or intoxicated” and was rushed to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital.
The girl told authorities that Credit, whom she called “Day Day,” put his hands and genitals in her privates during a night she spent at the house.
She said she spoke with Credit through Snapchat, where his account displayed his name, according to the affidavit.
Credit was found at the home on Dec. 5 and eventually taken into custody on outstanding warrants for robbery and escape after refusing to leave the bedroom he was staying in for about 20 minutes, according to the Rensselaer Police Department.
He had been staying in the room for several weeks, police learned.
Inside the bedroom, police discovered marijuana and white baggies in the trash that tested positive for cocaine.
The girl — who met Credit on Snapchat — told authorities that he put his hands and genitals in her privates during a night she spent at the house. Rensselaer Police DepartmentIndiana prosecutors charged Credit on Tuesday with child molestation, possession of cocaine, and possession of marijuana, according to the affidavit.
Police also arrested six others living at the home, where drug use was in “plain view,” on various charges, including drug possession.
Credit was charged with four counts of robbery and one count of aggravated battery after a two-hour late-night crime spree on Nov. 24, 2024.
The first robbery took place at Chicago’s 79th Street Red Line station, where Credit and a gang of others stole a victim’s Beats headphones, according to a police report obtained by CWB Chicago.
They then hopped on a northbound train and surrounded and robbed a 57-year-old man of his wallet in North Clarendon.
A 26-year-old woman was mugged next in North Pine Grove. When her boyfriend tried to stop them, one of the men, identified by police as Bryant Robinson, raised his shirt, revealing what appeared to be a gun in his waistband.
Then in West Waveland, the crew grabbed a man by the throat, dragged him between planters and parked cars. They forced him to his knees and robbed him, according to police.
They were arrested after they were spotted on camera at the Addison Red Line station a short time later. Police allegedly recovered a pistol-shaped taser from the crew.
