A Virginia senator is drawing tubs of criticism after absolutely drenching his tuna melt in mayo during an ill-advised cooking-at-home post on social media.

Mark Warner begins the Instagram video by calling the sandwich one of his “favorite all-time recipes” before whipping out a squeeze-bottle of mayo and a pair of bread slices.

“I like mayo. I know my kids hate mayo,” the Democrat says — while adding enough of the condiment to drown a deli worker.

After spreading it onto both pieces of bread, he scoops piles of tuna straight from the can — dripping fishy juice onto the base of the sandwich — before adding slices of cheddar cheese.

To complete the food world abomination, he then pops the sandwich into the microwave.

Criticism over his condiment use quickly, well, spread online.

“That is one hot mess. There isn’t a single thing right about this sandwich,” wrote observer allisoncmcm.

Others quipped that he shouldn’t quit his day job.

“Ok @MarkWarner we need to talk. That’s too much mayo dude,” former Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) added.

Warner’s communications director, Rachel Cohen, later cleared up questions folks had about his technique.

“Ok, Internet, I asked him your questions. And he wants you to know that he **intentionally** didn’t drain the tuna ‘because I didn’t want it to be too dry,'” Cohen said of Warner, according to The Hill.

But even she conceded that his lunch was “disgusting.”
