An assailant punched an elderly Texas Walmart greeter in the face so hard that he blacked out — all because the worker told him he hadn’t paid for a case of Gatorade, according to a new report.
Mohinder Randhawa, 72, was working Friday evening at the superstore branch in Cypress when Craig Valentine, 42, was getting ready to leave the store, according to local station ABC 13.
Randhawa checked Valentine’s receipt and noticed that he hadn’t paid for a case of Gatorade, the station reported.
“I told him if you want, you can scan and take it,” Randhawa told the outlet. “I never told him he was stealing.”
But Valentine became enraged, yelling that he had paid for everything. Then he shoved the greeter and socked him in the face, according to the report.
Mohinder RandhawaABC 13“My left upper lip was broken from here, blood started out, and inside also there was a cut about half an inch,” Randhawa told the station.
He said he’s still traumatized by the ordeal — and never experienced anything like it in his 15 years at the store.
“Yes, I’m scared to work that position because it never happened to me,” he told the outlet.
Valentine was charged with injury to an elderly person, and ordered held on $1,000 bond Tuesday night, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Randhawa is still putting ice packs on his face and shoulder to ease the pain.
“I was doing my duty,” he told the station. “I was doing what I was supposed to do.”
