A Washington state doctor has been accused of hatching a twisted plot to hire hitmen on the “dark web” to abduct his estranged wife — and break the hands of an ex-employee.

Dr. Ronald Craig Ilg, a neonatologist in Spokane, was charged last week with attempted kidnapping after a group of journalists investigating the dark web tipped off his soon-to-be-ex-wife to the alleged scheme, The Spokesman-Review reported.

The wife told FBI investigators that she believed he was trying to hire someone using bitcoin to kidnap her while he was away on vacation in Mexico, according to court documents.

When he returned from the trip last Sunday, Ilg was questioned by authorities.

Ilg admitted to authorities that he used the site but claimed his plan was to find someone to kill him so that his assets could go to another woman instead of his estranged wife, the outlet reported.

Illg allegedly first used the site in February to try to hire someone to maim a former employee, the Daily Beast reported.

“The target should be given a significant beating that is obvious. It should injure both hands significantly or break the hands,” he allegedly wrote under the name Scar215.

The doctor allegedly placed $2,000 into an escrow account for the scheme, but it’s unclear whether the attack was carried out, the outlet reported.

He returned to the site again in March after his wife decided that she wanted to end their marriage, according to court documents.

In postings also under the name Scar215, he allegedly requested someone abduct his wife in order to convince her to stop her court proceedings.

“I need a rush job for next week. I need the target kidnapped for five to seven days. While being held she is given at least daily doses of heroin. She is also strongly persuaded to do a few things within two weeks,” the posting allegedly said.

“1, stop ALL Court proceedings, 2, return to your husband and the chaos you created, 3. Tell absolutely no one about this. Also, the team should plant heroin and used needles with her DNA inside. After about seven days she is returned to her home.”

Scar215 also offered bonuses if the person was able to convince his wife to agree to certain conditions — such as have sex with him three times a week, the outlet reported.

The FBI searched his home last week and found a locked safe that could be only be opened with his fingerprint, authorities said.

Inside, there was a note with the username Scar215 and a password that agents used to log into the dark web and obtain his messages, the Daily Beast reported.

Ilg was taken into custody at Spokane County Jail, where he remained held Monday, according to jail records.

If convicted of the attempted kidnapping charge, he faces up to 20 years in prison, the Spokesman-Review reported.
