The skies are a lot friendlier to your wallet on weekends.

A new study by Texas A&M University finds that the cheapest time to buy airline tickets is not midweek, as conventional wisdom has it, but on the weekends.

The weekend fare can be as much as five percent cheaper, the researchers said.
