WEIRD BUT TRUE
Nothing like wearin’ the green when you’re stealin’ it. A guy in a leprechaun get-up flashed a gun and stole $322 from a Butte, Mont., laundry – on St. Patrick’s Day, of course.

Life is cheap to teen thugs in Fort Myers, Fla. – a 17-year-old hood there kidnapped a 15-year-old and demanded a $50 ransom, cops said.
Joseph Garrett, 17, is accused with accomplices of kidnapping David Gibbs, 15, over a $50 debt.
Gibbs couldn’t pay up, so Garrett and his friends allegedly held him at knifepoint and made him call his father to demand he place the $50 in a planter at a local Taco Bell.
The dad called the cops, who watched as Garrett’s pals allegedly picked up the cash. Garrett fled, but turned himself in the next day, police said.

A 5-year-old girl was arrested, handcuffed and put in the back of a St. Petersburg, Fla., police cruiser after an outburst at school over jelly beans.
The girl began acting silly while counting jelly beans during a math exercise, so her teacher took the candy away.
Unhappy, the child threw books and boxes, kicked a teacher in the shins, smashed a candy dish and hit an assistant principal in the stomach, authorities said. Cops came and cuffed her hands with plastic ties and her feet with handcuffs.
“I don’t want to go to jail,” she said. She didn’t. Her mom took her home.

British freedom-of-information laws couldn’t help a woman find a mate.
After the law took effect in January, Angela Wright sent an e-mail seeking “eligible bachelors within Hampshire constabulary between the ages of 35 and 49 and details of their e-mail addresses, salary details and pension values.”
Police wouldn’t release that information – though they did tell her the Hampshire police had 266 eligible bachelors.

Antique shops would be glad to have them, but Greek prison guards have had enough of their 1911 U.S. Cavalry revolvers.
Safety experts have advised the guards not to fire them, and the weapons don’t scare prisoners.
“We have more and more escape attempts, and prisoners just say, ‘I’ll try it because they won’t shoot me with these guns anyway,’ ” said an official with the guards’ union.
