WEIRD BUT TRUE
Cops in Ohio nabbed a suspect they were chasing when his prosthetic leg fell off.
Police in Dayton say a van being driven by Michael Ford, 41, tried to ram their car so they pursued it until it was cornered in a cul-de-sac after striking a tree.
Ford fled from the vehicle but didn’t get far before being collared.
“He only made it as far as the back yard as he had a prosthetic leg, which came off when he was running and decreased his mobility,” said Detective Michael Lang.
Talk about sleeping with the fishes.
A Florida woman was cremated and mixed with concrete to become part of an artificial reef, fulfilling her final wish.
The remains of Robin Fannin will settle to rest Aug. 6 at a site south of Marco Island that serves as a refugee for fish.
Fannin’s sister, Nora Ralston, said her sibling, a certified scuba diver, loved the water.
“Robin said she wanted to be buried at sea,” said Ralston.
A Florida woman suffered a collapsed lung and five broken ribs when a 6-foot-long, 140-pound sturgeon leapt into her family’s boat and knocked her unconscious.
Lacy Redd, a 34-year-old Gainesville elementary-school principal, was boating on the Suwanee River with her husband and kids when the fish jumped up and hit her, tossing her into the water.
The sturgeon folded the boat’s steering wheel in half.
“I’ll be honest, I thought she was dead,” said her husband, Paul, who dived into the water and rescued her.
Bruce the goose is a little confused.
The pet goose from Port Alberni, B.C., in Canada has fallen head over heels for a boat’s outboard motor.
Bruce spends his days within a wingspan of the 80-horsepower Mercury motor, refusing to socialize with any other birds – and he didn’t fly south last winter.
“Every time we take the boat out he gives us hell,” says owner Mike Cooke.
“He’s very possessive. The wife comes out and touches the motor, and he starts pecking at her hand.”
Cooke said water-skiing has become especially difficult because the goose doesn’t like to let loose of the motor.
“When we get back, the first thing he does is check the motor,” he said.
