WEIRD BUT TRUE
You could say that driving through Hebron, Conn., really stinks. At least it did the other day, when a truck loaded with chicken manure spilled along Route 316.
The truck, from Southern New England Egg Farms in Bozrah, was hauling the manure to Coventry when its tailgate opened.
Residents held their noses as brave workers from the state Department of Transportation were dispatched to clean up the slop.
A man spent five years creating the world’s biggest rubber-band ball – then dropped it out of a plane to see if it would bounce.
Tony Evans, 54, pushed the one-ton ball from a mile up over the Mojave Desert in Arizona. It took 20 seconds to hit the ground, and created a four-foot-wide crater and 20-foot cloud of dust.
It also collapsed on impact – without a bounce.
“It was my pride and joy. I’d have loved to see it bounce. But it was an incredible sight,” said Evans, who’s earned a place in “The Guinness Book of Records.”
A bank-robbery suspect learned a painful lesson – never stuff stolen money containing an explosive dye pack down your pants. Moments after John Gladney allegedly held up the National City Bank in Columbus, Ohio, he was seen limping in obvious pain.
Suspicious cops approached Gladney, 40, to find he had been injured when the dye pack blew up. He’s been charged with aggravated robbery.
Teens at a Massachusetts school were grossed out when a carpentry teacher brought a dead coyote to class – and proceeded to skin it in front of them.
Miles Downing, of North Shore Technical HS in MidDleton and an amateur taxidermist, found the animal on the road and “thought it would be an educational experience,” Superintendent Amy O’Malley said.
But two kids who touched the carcass had to be treated for rabies as a precaution. Downing was suspended
An Italian man went to confession and handed the priest two guns, two hand grenades and 18 bullets.
Father Gregorio Vitale, rector of the Bozzola Sanctuary in Garlasco, said he had just taken the man’s confession when the man handed him a bag and uttered, “I’d like you to take these as well, father.”
“I couldn’t believe my eyes. I am just happy that he wanted to change his life, return to the church- and that he came to us for help,” Vitale said.
