The first inmate to get his arm stuck in his cell toilet at Pennsylvania’s Pine Grove State Prison was trying to retrieve a bar of soap.

The second inmate to do the same thing, a newly arrived prisoner, thought it was a crock when fellow inmates told him about the mishap, and set out to prove it couldn’t happen.

Local firefighters had to use an air chisel to cut the toilet and free his arm.

Just say no – to cheese?

Dr. Neil Barnard, head of the U.S.-based Physicians Committee on Responsible Medicine, claims cheese can be addictive because it contains “high levels of casein, a protein that breaks apart during digestion to produce morphine-like opiate compounds called casomorphins.”

Winning $5.5 million in the Texas lottery last December apparently wasn’t enough for José Luis Betancourt. He was found guilty this week of trying to make more money by selling cocaine.

He now faces a stiff jail term. And he won’t have his lottery jackpot waiting for him when he gets out. He has to forfeit his winnings since he bought his $1 ticket with drug money.

Is this a sign of The Times? A Harvard-bound New Jersey teenager has admitted she failed to attribute information she borrowed from several sources in writing a series of articles and essays for her local newspaper.

Blair Hornstine, 18-year- old valedictorian of Moorestown HS, didn’t apologize when she explained her actions in a column published in the Cherry Hill Courier-Post.

Her excuse? “I am not a professional journalist.”

Two years ago Pennsylvania pharmacist Ronald Hyman was hailed as a hero for helping convict a Bucks County doctor for selling prescriptions for the sometimes deadly painkiller OxyContin.

“The man thought nothing could touch him,” Hyman said of the doctor he helped send to jail. “I feel gratified that this monster was taken off the streets.”

This week, Hyman himself was arrested on a similar charge – accused of selling prescriptions for a similar drug, Roxicet.
