A five-legged dog found near a Raleigh, N.C., park has undergone successful surgery to remove two of his legs.

Vets removed Popcorn’s back two left legs – the result of a rare genetic irregularity.

The extra leg was amputated because it was hampering the pooch’s movement. The more fully developed leg was also removed because it rotated at a 90-degree angle, rendering it useless as well. Doctors said the dog faced severe arthritis without the surgery.

You’ll be in hot water if you live in Kentucky and don’t bathe at least once a year.

A state law requiring annual baths is one of the wackier ordinances on the books in Kentucky. Another odd statute requires that a woman in a bathing suit on a highway be escorted by at least two cops or be armed with a club.

“Sometimes unusual laws have a little sense behind them,” said Elizabethtown City Attorney D. Dee Shaw. “Sometimes they don’t.”

Australian taxpayers are footing the bill for Christmas makeovers for a group of female jailbirds.

About 20 women at the Darwin Correctional Center in Berrimah received the makeovers as a Christmas gift from the facility’s Programs Section. The makeovers included haircuts, leg waxes and facials.

A driver in New Zealand was prevented from taking his road test because his car smelled of dog.

Michael Gargan, 24, was turned away by a tester in New Plymouth because of the foul odor in his mom’s car. The female examiner also said there was dog hair all over the vehicle.

“There is an odor in the car . . . and I am wearing a polyester shirt and it picks up hair,” Gargan quoted the woman as saying.

An Oregon State University poultry scientist is crying fowl over the “stupid turkey” stereotype.

Tom Savage said turkeys are not dumb, despite what the public thinks.

“I’ve always viewed turkeys as smart animals, with personality and character and keen awareness of their surroundings,” Savage said.

However, he did admit that the birds look dumb, especially when running.
