Honesty is not always the best policy.

Example 1:

Daniel Lee Hurst, 33, of Moraine, Ohio, was arrested after he called a local courthouse to request a marriage license.

The court he called was Juvenile Court – because his intended bride was a 13-year-old.

He was arrested after he mentioned he had gotten her pregnant. The charge: unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Example 2:

A Philadelphia man wanted for allegedly embezzling $150,000 was nabbed when he couldn’t come up with the money to pay a highway toll.

Guillermo Martinez, who’s charged with using stolen funds to take two strippers on a jaunt to Miami, filled out a tollbooth form so he could pay later by mail – and gave his real name.

He was arrested after the toll taker ran a routine police check on him.

Imagine entering a Miss Ugly competition and being ecstatic when you beat 50 other non-lookers for the title.

Well, Zhang Di, 26, was absolutely delighted to win China’s non-beauty pageant because of her “small eyes, flat nose and poor skin.”

Why so happy – and so honest? The prize was $12,000 worth of cosmetic surgery.

Four men in Whatcom County, Wash., had their convictions on burglary and assault charges thrown out because of juror misconduct.

What did the naughty jurors do? When they went home after deliberating for several days, three of them checked their dictionaries for the definitions of two legal terms – “intent” and “burglary.”

The four men will be retried.

A despondent Frenchman cleaned out his bank account and burned $288,000 in savings in his bathtub. Then he tried to end his life by swallowing two bottles of pills.

His suicide bid was foiled when his neighbors in Bordeaux saw smoke coming from his house and called emergency services.

The man says he is now eager to start life over, but admits he has a big problem – he’s penniless.
