Do politicians do any real work down in Tennessee?

You might wonder after the state Legislature just acted on one its most pressing issues in months – deciding that dogs can continue to ride in the backs of pickup trucks.

The vote, a squeaker at 13-11, shot down a proposal to make it a misdemeanor, punishable by a $50 fine. OK, but what about cats?

Sun worshippers at a famed Canadian nude beach are in a naked fury over plans by the University of British Columbia to build dorms on a cliff overlooking the site.

They say students who live there will use binoculars and train Web cameras on Wreck Beach, wrecking their privacy.

“It’s mean for the university to do,” said Stephanie Gibson, 12, who has been raised in the buff on the beach. “I know they need more residences for the students, but they have to think of us.”

Speaking of schools and nudity, an 18-year-old Indiana University coed has been running a sexy Web site from her dorm room.

“Teen Kiera,” as she calls herself, posts naked photos of herself, snapped on the Bloomington campus, and charges subscribers $24.95 a month.

School honchos are livid, but can’t do anything because “it comes down to acts by a private, adult citizen,” said dean of students Richard McKaig.

Dial M for Marriage.

Jon Wright, 29, tried to text a New Year’s greeting to a pal on his cellphone, but dialed a wrong digit and sent it to Becky Dale, 33. Intrigued, Becky replied and the pair began swapping messages and fell in love within weeks.

Becky, a secretary in East Yorks, England, said, “We clicked instantly. I told Jon I hadn’t found my Mr. Right, but he replied, ‘Yes you have, it’s me.’ “

Jon and Becky have now been married.

A Hong Kong man made an explosive call yesterday – his cellphone blew up.

“I was just calling my boss to say I would be returning to work a few minutes late, and when I pressed the button to hang up, the phone was suddenly flying everywhere,” said Chan Tin-hon, who was cut by slivers of phone parts. Cops are investigating.
