The White House on Monday said the communications aide who said Sen. John McCain was “dying anyway” has been handled “internally.”

“This is an internal matter, it’s being addressed internally, and I don’t have anything further to add,” deputy press secretary Raj Shah said at the daily briefing.

During a discussion last week on strategy over McCain’s opposition to Gina Haspel’s CIA nomination, Kelly Sadler said it didn’t really matter “because he’s dying anyway.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said Sadler’s comment was a “disgusting thing to say” during an appearance Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

Shah said Sadler had reached out to McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain, to apologize.

Pressed on why she hadn’t made a public apology, Shah said she “addressed it with the family directly.”
