BOSTON — The judge set to preside over the trial of reputed gangster James “Whitey” Bulger was removed from the case yesterday.

The 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals, siding with Bulger, found Judge Richard Stearns’ background as a former federal prosecutor could create the appearance of bias.
