Nick Reiner has hired celebrity defense attorney Alan Jackson as he faces charges for the gruesome murder of his parents, Rob and Michelle Reiner — and legal experts think the legal eagle could potentially charge over $1 million for the case.

Jackson was revealed as Reiner’s attorney just days after his famous father – who directed iconic films like “The Princess Bride” and “When Harry Met Sally” — and mother were found hacked to death in their Brentwood mansion Sunday.

The shocking murder case stunned Hollywood and the world, and could be the biggest yet for Jackson — even after he made his name successfully defending true-crime main character Karen Read, twice.

He has also repped Hollywood A-listers like Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein, and even led the prosecution of iconic pop producer Phil Spector when he was an LA County Deputy District Attorney.

Jackson became a household name when he was hired to defend Massachusetts woman Karen Read, who was charged with murdering her cop boyfriend John O’Keefe in 2022.

The explosive story commanded headlines for years, with Jackson front and center throughout – even making some headlines of his own after he was filmed in a close embrace with Read during a night out in Boston.

Jackson first managed to secure a mistrial, and then fully exonerated Read in 2025 when the case went back to court.

He was also caught on camera giving Read a very familiar two-armed hug from behind as the jury deliberated in the first trial.

Before that, he defended Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein for LA rape charges. Jackson suffered a rare loss in that case against his success rate, which is an impressive 96%, according to Fox News.

Years earlier, he defended A-list actor Kevin Spacey against sexual assault charges until they were dismissed in 2019.

Jackson first commanded center stage as a prosecutor with the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, however, when he led the case against iconic “Wall of Sound” music producer Phil Spector for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson.

Jackson delivered an impassioned prosecution, and managed to send the high-profile producer to prison for life.

What are his attorney fees?

It remains unclear how much Jackson might be charging Rainer, but legal experts have speculated his full cost in a murder trial of this scale could reach into the millions.

“Alan Jackson was the best prosecutor for years in that LA office and now he is the go-to defense attorney. You want the best, it doesn’t come cheap,” said Court TV anchor Vinnie Politan.

“After the Karen Read trial Alan Jackson catapulted to the top of the high profile defense attorney list,” he added. “If this becomes a death penalty double murder trial this could easily be a seven-figure fee to handle this case.”

Here’s the latest on the death of Rob Reiner:

Others agree, with estimates ranging from over $1 million, to $500,000 on the low end.

What’s also unclear is how the 32-year-old nepo baby plans to pay for the pricey defense – and whether Jackson will cut him a bargain rate for the publicity his case will bring.

Jackson previously he told Vanity Fair that he didn’t charge Read full freight for her two murder trials — despite Read’s case being worth about  $10 million if she paid the full price.

The magazine reported that Read paid $1.2 million from her savings and a legal defense fund that was raised for her.

“He is probably quoting a significant fee somewhere in the half million range. Or he is quoting lower knowing it is good publicity, it is difficult to say,” criminal defense attorney Lindsay Richards of Austin’s Cofer and Connelly said of the Reiner case.

“I am also not sure where Nick Reiner’s money is coming from, he might already have an inheritance to pay for his legal fees,” she added.

How will he defend Reiner?

Experts also think Jackson likely has a defense strategy for Reiner already in place.

“From what I have seen and know about Alan Jackson, he is very passionate about his work. That passion leads to a very effective defense,” said celebrity lawyer Bradford Cohen, of Ft. Lauderdale-based Cohen and McMullen.

“My guess is he will be looking to suppress any statements or evidence and if that fails then he will most likely mitigate the matter with issues of substance abuse or mental deficiency,” Cohen added.

But Jackson will have his work cut out for him.

Reiner was allegedly staying in a hotel room that was found covered in blood after his arrest, and was seen getting into an explosive argument with his parents while acting erratically at an A-list Christmas party just hours before they were murdered.

He also has a history of mental illness going back years, which included periods of homelessness across the country and over a dozen rehab stints for substance abuse.

What he’s said about the Nick Reiner case

Jackson brought his characteristic defiance while addressing reporters outside LA court Wednesday, where he appeared with Reiner for the first time.

“We ask that during this process, you allow the system to move forward in the way that it was designed to move forward,” Jackson said.

“Most importantly, this is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family,” he added. “Our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family.”

“There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case.”

Reiner was originally due in court Tuesday, but failed to appear after Jackson said he “has not been medically cleared,” which the lawyer insisted was “just a procedural issue.”

The alleged killer wore shackles and a suicide-prevention vest when he finally showed on Wednesday, and remains held without bail after being charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance.

He has not entered a plea yet, with Jackson agreeing to push the arraignment hearing back to Jan. 7.
