Hillary Clinton’s about-face on charter schools has some major donors threatening to close their checkbooks.

Among them is Eli Broad, a billionaire philanthropist and charter-school advocate who, according to The Wall Street Journal, refused to contribute to a super PAC backing Clinton. He changed his mind only after ex-President Bill Clinton and campaign chief John Podesta personally assured him she wasn’t going to abandon charters.

Hillary took a skeptical view of charters in a TV interview in South Carolina last month, saying most of the schools “don’t take the hardest-to-teach kids, or if they do, they don’t keep them.”
